The Weight

Montana’s Austin Knudsen has joined with 18 other so-called ‘attorneys general’ in protesting stronger HIPAA protections. The rules would shield medical records of legal abortions from criminal investigations.

With those six words, Senate candidate Tim Sheehy (R) tweeted praise for the Supreme Court overturning student debt forgiveness. Never mind that is own company, Bridger Aerospace, had a PPP loan of over three-quarter million forgiven.

Montana’s Republican establishment has lined up behind a young unknown, Tim Sheehy, for US Senate. Not a good omen for whackjob Matt Rosendale.

Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-Moron) actually said this on the floor of the U.S. House: “We have drag shows taking place at Malmstrom Air Force Base, there are 150 ICBM missiles that are being controlled by that Air Force Base and by these individuals. I don’t want someone who doesn’t know if they are a man or a woman with their hand on a missile button.” That statement is inaccurate in too many ways to count. But he passed an amendment to the defense bill banning health care for transgender military personnel.

In 1987, Ronald Reagan nominated Robert Bork for Supreme Court justice; Bork’s ultraconservative ‘originalist’ views wrecked his chances. Now, 36 years later, the Court has come round to those views. Here’s one thing Bork did right, as opposed to the three Trump nominees: in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee, he answered honestly.

Much as I respect the service, it would be nice to see mention of Tim Sheehy (and Ryan Zinke, for that matter) without reference to their SEALdom. What other political vets get such notice?
